How do I
replace halogen capsules...
Halogen capsules in aerodynamic
composite headlight assemblies are easy to replace, if you follow a few
important guidelines:
Be careful not to scratch
or drop the capsule, as it could explode.
Always wear gloves or use a clean rag when handling halogen capsules.
Oil from your hands could contaminate the capsule and cause premature failure.
Finally, never touch the glass portion of the lamp; always handle
the capsule by its plastic base
To replace halogen capsules,
start by opening the hood and locating the capsule on the back of the headlight
assembly. In some cars, due to crowded engine compartments, it may be necessary
to remove the entire headlight assembly.
Once you have located
the socket, carefully remove the electric connector.
Unscrew the retaining ring (if so equipped) or turn the lamp 1/3 of
a turn counterclockwise to release it from its socket.
Install the new capsule by aligning the notches on the capsule base
with the ridges in the socket.
Push the capsule firmly into the socket until the mounting flange
on the base contacts the rear face of the socket.
Slip the capsule retaining ring over the rearward portion of the plastic
base against the mounting flange.
Lock the ring into the socket by rotating the ring clockwise. A stop
will be felt when the retaining ring is fully engaged.
Finally, push the electric connector back on to the capsules
base and check for proper operation.
To remove a 9004/9007 bulb,
lift the harness retaining clip from the lamp base, then pull the connector
off. Unscrew the retaining ring and remove the bulb from the base. To install
the bulb, align the notches in the bulbs base with the ridges in the
socket and insert the bulb. Install the retaining ring and push the harness
connector back onto the bulbs base.
